Perceived benefits of agribusiness entrepreneurship among farming community in Pakistan
Abstract
This research seeks to evaluate the current status of farmers’ orientation about entrepreneurship and its relevance to the farming business, identify and analyze major dynamics promoting or hindering entrepreneurial skill development among farmers, assess training requirements for the promotion of entrepreneurial culture, and suggest a viable model for the promotion of the farming business. The research was conducted in District Lahore Punjab, Pakistan. Primary data were collected from 300 farmers using pre-tested questionnaires through personal interviews. Farmers were selected from different farming businesses, such as major crops, minor crops, fruits, and vegetables, to evaluate their relative success or failure. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics to draw interpretations about the socio-economic and business features of farmers, factor analysis to identify major variables affecting the entrepreneurial skills of farmers, and a binary logistic model applied to analyze the major determinants of farmers’ satisfaction from their current entrepreneurial ventures. Based on the recommendations, a business model was suggested to improve the entrepreneurial culture.
